In its husks resides our sense of cultural identity. It is the seed of our collective creativity and the backbone of our history. It grants us sustenance as it feeds not only our stomachs but our spiritual well being. It threads our past to our present. It communes with the sacred as it grounds the domestic. At the core of the community, maize rendered our sense of life. Unbended by the struggle of conquest, maize gave Mexico its foundation for nationhood.

Born and raised in Mexico, I and my body of work celebrates maize as sacred by resurrecting the omnipresent power of which it is invested with. The ways in which the power of the sacred operates, the places that it inhabits, the objects that in can animate, the existential states that it can induce, allows individuals to conceive themselves within larger systems of meaning that governs our sense of being. These are my motifs.
