I was born and raised in Mexico City, Mexico and began working in sculpture when I moved to Boston for my undergraduate degree. My early work was centered around the idea of corn, or ‘maíz’, as Mexico’s great cultural generator. Through subsequent pieces I have explored my own nomadism as a young Mexican artist working abroad.
I gravitated to pottery, the language of the hands, for its ability to connect with histories and peoples. My Aortic series gives full expression to my cultural background by marrying the discipline on the potters wheel with the freedom of form in sculpture.
For now, you can find me at Crown Works Pottery, tucked away in an old Victorian mews near to Bethnal Green.
